Garry Kasparov turns 40

by ChessBase
4/13/2003 – At a time when chess players should be slipping, Garry Kasparov is still at the top of the chess world, where he has now been perched for over 18 years. Today is his 40th birthday, and instead of putting together a summary of his career we simply clicked a few times in ChessBase and allowed the database which he originally initiated to put together some biographical information.

ChessBase 18 - Mega package ChessBase 18 - Mega package

Winning starts with what you know
The new version 18 offers completely new possibilities for chess training and analysis: playing style analysis, search for strategic themes, access to 6 billion Lichess games, player preparation by matching Lichess games, download Chess.com games with built-in API, built-in cloud engine and much more.

In 1985 a young chessplayer from Baku, not yet world champion, came to Hamburg to play a training match against Germany's top GM Robert Hübner. There he met the original founders of ChessBase, one a journalist and the other a physics student, and talked them into developing a chess database. His words were heeded and the world's premium database was created. So it is only appropriate that the program should produce these birthday wishes.

The function we used is the well-known "Player's dossier". Just a few clicks produces a complete portrait of a player, as we decribed in detail in a previous article. This time we asked the program for some pictures, which it extracts from the Players Encyclopedia, and the career highlights and opponents, which ChessBase extracted from Mega Database 2003. In the original dossier you could, of course, click each tournament to get a cross table and the game, but we will leave that to the users to perform themselves.
