An exhibition of chess art will be opened in the Dutch town of Druten on November 10th in the Cultural Center D’n Bogerd in Druten, Van Heemstraweg 53, 6651 KH Druten, The Netherlands. There are paintings and objects by a number of Dutch artists, all thematically linked to the game of chess. The exhibition includes new pieces by artists Henryette Weijmar Schultz, Jan Langendam, Karin Miedema, Anna Troost, Berry, Peter the Leeuwe, Govert Muijs, Geert van Tongeren, Bram de Winter and Tjerk Zijlstra. Many of these artists will be present at the exhibition to explain their works.

All of this is the work of Margreet Wevers, who in 2005 together with Geert van Tongeren had the idea of doing something around chess and art. They called this project and the company Schaakkunst (schaak = chess and kunst = art). Schaakkunst made contact with artists who use the theme chess in their work. In August of 2005 they started the website www.schaakkunst.nl, in the beginning with only two artists and their own works.

At the opening of the exhibition on Sunday, November 10th, at 10:30 a.m. there will be an open rapid chess tournament. The Exhibition will be opened at 13:00h (1 p.m.) by IM Hans Böhm, who will play a clock simul against ten guests from 14:15 to 15:15. For children (and older chess lovers) there will be a treasure hunt. All participants will receive a nice gift.

Margreet Wevers was raised in Friesland, moved to Arnhem in 1987 and now lives in Velp (a village near Arnhem) with her son Bart, 15. He plays much better chess than his mum, who is a better bridge player.

Margreet studied at an academy of music, later studied and worked as analyst and programmer. For several years now she builds and manages websites and tries to make a living from things she most likes to do: designing and producing products that are unique and/or specialized, e.g. for chess clubs. For this she uses many different materials, like paper, fabric, wood, metal, clay, soap and other materials.
