The first chess program to break 2800!

by ChessBase
7/8/2003 – For the first time a chess program has crossed the 2800 mark on the computer rating lists. This on the basis of over 90,000 games played by 254 computers. A bit worrying for Fritz, which has been duelling Shredder for first place for some time now. But it's a family tussle, since both programs are distributed by ChessBase. Here is the latest SSDF computer rating list.

Thoralf Karlsson reports:

Five months ago Shredder 7.0 appeared on the first place of the SSDF Rating list after a rating increase of more than 40 points. Now Stefan Meyer-Kahlen and Sandro Necchi can be proud of another 40 points, which places them 48 points ahead of the nearest competitor!

After 465 games Shredder 7.04 UCI Athlon 1200 MHz, played under the Classic Shredder-interface, has a rating of 2810! Congratulations!

We have started to play with Deep Junior 8.0, on a single Athlon 1200 MHz, and will present the result on next rating list, which will appear in August or September.
