The Russian chess magazine «64» has announced that the winner of the eleventh chess Oscar is the current FIDE world champion Veselin Topalov. He was chosen by 361 chess experts from 68 countries. These experts nominated the ten strongest players, awarding 13 points for the first nominee, 11 for the second, nine for the third, seven for the fourth, six for fifth.... until one for the tenth.

The bronze figurine of the "Fascinated Wanderer" will be formally handed over to Topalov on May 10th 2006 at the opening of the international tournament in Sofia. In ceremony will most likely be attended by the president of Bulgaria, George Pravanov, and the president of the International Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who will hand over the prize to the winner.
