5/5/2006 – The Susan Polgar World Open Championship for Girls will be held in Las Vegas from June 16–18, 2006. The winners take home a laptop computers and other prizes. At least two will get college scholarships to Texas Tech University. The event is for all girls under 21 around the world. Ready for the challenge?

The Susan Polgar Foundation proudly presents the First Annual Susan Polgar World Open Chess Championship for Girls under 21 as part of the Las Vegas International Chess Festival.

  • Dates: June 16 - 18, 2006, Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Format: Six round Swiss System
  • Sections: Under 21, 15, 13 and 10
  • Time control: All moves in 45 minutes

Please bring your own clock.

All four sections will award the following prizes:

  • 1st place receives a laptop computer.
  • Gift prizes for 2nd-5th places:
    • 2nd place - $200
    • 3rd place - $150
    • 4th place - $100
    • 5th place - $50
  • At least two college scholarships to Texas Tech University will be awarded!

Any player with 6-0 score also receives a digital clock. Trophies to each of the top 20 individuals and top 3 teams in each section. Special medals to 21st through 30th place individuals and 4th, 5th and 6th-place teams. (If there are 3 or more players from the same school in the same section or same chess club, the top 3 scores added to give team final standings.) Every player receives a special hand signed certificate from Susan Polgar. Qualified winner of each section will qualify for the 2006 Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls in Chicago (Winner of the Open section must meet the age restriction).

Each co-champion was awarded a full tuition and fees scholarship (value approximately $40,000 each) to the University of Texas in Dallas.

Entry Fees: $30 if received by March 15, 2006; $45 if received by May 25; $60 on site - On site registration: 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friday and up to 9:30 AM on Saturday. Blitz EF: $15; Puzzle Solving EF: $12; Simul: $20. Special $35 entry fees for all three events (Blitz, Puzzle and Simul).No telephone entries.
