Aeroflot-gate: Mamedyarov sticks to his guns

Our previous reports brought you to story of s cheating allegations against Russian GM Igor Kurnosov, at the Aeroflot Open, and also Kurnosov's response. Now it seems that the World no.18 is not prepared to let the matter drop. In a strongly-worded letter to a Azeri sports website, Mamedyarov not only repeats his allegations in respect of his own game against Kurnosov, but also claims that the Russian GM was using the assistance of Rybka in other games played at the Aeroflot Open.

Dear Sirs

Looking at various chess sites, I noticed that there are still many aspects of GM Kurnosov’s games at the Aeroflot Open which remain unclear, and I should like to bring some clarity to some of these. After the tournament, I carefully analysed again Kurnosov’s games, played up to round six and onwards. Certain facts emerge from this.

Prior to round six, he played three games as Black. In round two, we have the game Onischuk-Kurnosov. In this game, Onischuk played the novelty 13.Bb2 and from then until the end of the game, i.e. move 27, Kurnosov played every single move strictly in accordance with the first choice of Rybka, and won in great style. Two rounds later, he was again Black, and again played the Grunfeld Defence in the game Moiseenko-Kurnosov. Moiseenko played the novelty 12.Nd4 and once again, Kurnosov followed Rybka’s first choice line down to move 25.

However, in this game, he was not able to win, as Moiseenko obtained a fairly simple position, without risk. But even so, it seems to me that Black could still have played for a win in the final position. In round six, against me, Kurnosov again followed Rybka’s first choice line and won.

In all three of these games, very few of Rybka’s second-choice moves were played, and it was precisely these moves which were the weakest ones played. In the games against Onischuk and myself, we each sacrificed a pawn, and in each case, within a few moves, the computer constructs a good defence and wins with a counter-attack.

Thus it was that in round eight, when he was under the closest scrutiny from the arbiters and spectators, Kurnosov played extremely weakly and lost. In my mind, this is a clear demonstration that Kurnosov had been using the help of a computer program, leaving the playing hall after every move, and having such confidence in himself, that he turned down a draw against me on move 14, with the black pieces, in an absolutely equal position.

I hope that all of the above details will be studied, and will be understood by all chess lovers around the world. I have no doubt that future tournament organisers will take account of these details, which impact badly on the image of chess.

Азербайджанский гроссмейстер Шахрияр Мамедъяров обнародовал письмо шахматным СМИ, передает azerisport.com.

Просматривая шахматные СМИ  я обратил внимание на то, что очень многое насчет партий МГ Курносова в Аэрофлот опене все еще кажется неясным и я бы хотел внести в это кое-какие разъеснения . После окончания я еще раз внимательно проанализировал партии Курносова, сыгранные до 6-го тура  и после. В результате этого всплыли некоторые факты.

3 сыгранные партии черными до 6-го тура. 2 тур,  Онищук-Курносов. В данной партии Онищук применил новинку 13. Сб2 и после этого хода Курносов до конца партии, то есть до 27-го хода делает ходы строго по первой лнии Рыбки и одерживает победу в прекрасном стиле. Через два тура снова черными и снова защита Грюнфельда Моисеенко-Курносов. Моисеенко применяет новинку 12. Кд4 и снова вплоть до до 25-го хода Курносов играет по первой линии Рыбки.       

Но в этой игре он не может победить соперника, потому что Моисеенкоиграет более простую позицию и без риска. Но мне все-же кажется, что последнюю позицию черные могли бы играть на победу. В 6-м туре, против меня Курносов опять играет и побеждает играя по первой линии Рыбки.

Во всех указанных трех играх, очень мало ходов были сделаны по второй линии Рыбки и самые слабые ходы были именно второй линией. В моей и Онищука партии мы оба пожертвовали пешку, а в таких позициях компьютер несколько ходов строит хорошую защиту и побеждает благодаря контратаке.                 

Таким образом, в 8-ом туре, после того как Курносов оказался под пристальным вниманием судей и любителей шахмат он играет на очень низком уровне и терпит поражение. И мне кажется, что это является явным показателем того, что Курносов пользовался помощью компьютерной программы, покидая турнирный зал практически после каждого хода и обладая такой уверенностью в себе, отказавшись от ничьи на 14-ом ходу играя черными фигурами против меня, в абсолютно равной позиции.                                                                                         

Я надеюсь, что все вышеуказанные детали будут проанализированы и поняты всеми любителями шахматного мира. Я не сомневаюсь, что в будущем организаторы турниров будут учитывать такие нюансы, которые плохо сказываются на имидже шахмат.
