The Russian Team Championship is taking place from 4th–10th April 2009 in Dagomys-Sochi, southern Russia. The Higher League, one level below, and Women's League take place from 2nd–10th April 2009:

In the Premier League after four rounds Tomsk-400 with Dmitry Jakovenko, Artyom Timofeev, Ernesto Inarkiev, Sergei Tiviakov, Vladislav Tkachiev, Farrukh Amonatov, Denis Khismatullin and Andrei Belozerov are in the lead, followed by ShSM-64 (Moscow), with Gelfand, Wang Hao, Najer, Caruana, etc. and Ecomomist Economist SGSEU-1 (Saratov) with Moiseenko, Alekseev, Tomashevsky, Ni Hua, Eljanov, etc. SPbChFed with Svidler, Movsesian, Vitugov and others in in fourth place.
After six rounds of the Women's tournament Spartak (Vidnoe) with Antoaneta Stefanova, Tatiana and Nadezhda Kosintseva, Kateryna Lahno and Evgenija Ovod are leading with nine points – they won four matches and drew one so far. Runners-up are AVS (Krasnoturinsk), followed by Economist SGSEU-1 (Saratov) and SPb Chess Fed. In the Higher League Polytechnik and Yugra are in the lead with 10 points each from six rounds of play.
