
The Biel Chess Festival is taking place from July 17th-30th 2010 at the Congress 
  Center (Zentralstr. 60
  CH - 2502 Biel-Bienne). The main group this year concentrated exclusively on 
  young talents. The youngest, Anish Giri, is 16, the oldest, Evgeny Tomashevsky, 
  is 23. Here are the participants sorted according to their current FIDE rating.

  Wesley So and Evgeny Tomashevsky drew their round six game in 24 moves

  16-year-old Wesley So, at 2674 the strongest player on the Philippines

  "Local derby": GMs Anish Giri, 16, vs GM Parimarjan Negi, 17, 
  was drawn in 20

  Dmitry Andreikin vs Maxim Rodshtein was also drawn in 20

  This game between the top Italian GM and the Vietnamese prodigy was a draw 
  in 31

In this position, White could have tried 31.Nxa4 Nxa4 32.Qa5, but the 19-year-old

  Black is well on the path to victory. 34.Qh2 Qf2 35.Qh1 b5 36.Nxb5 Nd3? 
  36...Qc2 would have cleared matters up. Now White can draw. 37.Rg2 Qf3 
  38.Rh2?  [38.Nc7!] Qxh1 39.Rxh1 Nc5 40.Re1 g5 and 
  now he is lost again: 0-1.

    Of the 30 games played in the first six rounds: 
       
        21 games = 70% were drawn 
          5 games = 17% were won by White 
          4 games = 13% were won by Black 
       
      13 games were shorter than 30 moves – 29 of these were drawn. The 
        longest game was Giri-Andreikin, which lasted 109 moves and was drawn. 
        Tomashevsky won a 94-mover against Negi.  |
