FIDE President, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has announced that the match between Garry Kasparov and computer chess world champion Deep Junior will be held in New York City in January 2003. Two preliminary games will be played on Januray 7th and 9th in Jerusalem, but the results of these games will not be counted in the overall score.
The official part of the match starts on January 22, 2003. Games will be played on 23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th, 31st January and 2nd February. The closing ceremony and press conference will be held on February 3rd.
The President of FIDE said: "We considered proposals from different cities and decided that this match with a prize fund of $1 million had to be staged in New York City. Originally intended to take place in Jerusalem, this match will start in the 'Holy City' where the Jerusamlem Cup match will be held. Then the matches will move to Manhattan."
The match will be held under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and International Computer Games Association (ICGA) with classical time control.

The games in New York may start a few days later than announced.
The Prize Fund is US $1 million with $500,000 honorarium to Garry Kasparov. The other half will be divided in the following proportion: the winner gets $300,000, the loser $200,000 and in the case of a tie $250,000 each.
