Anatoly Karpov beats Hou Yifan in Hainan

11/12/2010 – The 59-year-old 12th World Champion from Russia won the first game against the phenomenally talented Chinese prodigy, 43 years his junior. But after that, all the remaining games were drawn, so that Karpov won the match 3.5:2.5. Two of the games were rapid, in one Hou had a chance to equalise. The world's third strongest female player spent the free day learning yoga and martial arts.

Match Anatoly Karpov vs Hou Yifan

This encounter between the twelfth World Champion and one of China's most remarkable young talents took place from November 6th to 11th 2010 in Sanya City, Hainan, China. The event consisted of four classical games (90 min for all moves + 30 sec increment for each move) and two rapid chess games (25 min + 10 sec.). It ended in a narrow 3.5/2.5 victory for Karpov, who won the first game. The rest were drawn.
