13th Dubai Open Chess ChampionshipThe Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup took place from April 9th to 19th, 2011 in the Dubai Chess and Culture Club. It was a nine round Swiss, with time controls of one hour and 30 minutes for the whole game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move. The closing ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 19, one day after the final (ninth) round, at 19:00h. |

Three other contenders caught the leading Parimarjan Negi, but were of course unable to reach Abhijeet Gupta: Czaba Balogh beat Krishnan Sasikiran, Murtas Kazhgaleyev beat Levan Pantsulaia, and Jon Ludvig Hammer took the full point from Aleksej Aleksandrov. That meant a four-way tie for second, which the tiebreak system sorted in Negi, Balogh, Kazhgaleyev, Hammer.
