The Second Women Masters is underway in Xi Shan, China. The first edition was won by GM Hou Yifan, however it is clear she is too strong for such a tournament, and in order to help her fulfill her ambitions, she will instead be playing in the Bangkok Open, alongside Nigel Short, starting tomorrow.

The strongest player is Ju Wenjun, rated 2557, and contrary to her lackadaisical Chinese championship just a week ago, he has had a strong 2.5/3 start and leads on tiebreak. Aside from several strong Chinese players, the lineup includes Georgian WGM Bela Khotenashvili (2490), as well as Ukrainian WGM Mariya Muzychuk (2490), sister to Anna Muzychuk.
