The Second Gran Fiesta UNAM is taking place in Mexico City from November 16th to 25th, 2012. The Festival started with a women's rapid chess tournament and an Open. The main attraction, however, is a rapid and blindfold knockout tournament with Magnus Carlsen, Lazaro Bruzon, Judit Polgar and Manuel Leon Hoyos. Carlsen will also give a simul display and play an interactive Carlsen vs The World game on Saturday, November 25th. The final of the quadrangular knockout will be on Sunday.
The UNAM chess festival is one of the largest in the world, with thousands of chess fans, many tournaments – e.g. the Second Grand International Tournament Chess Open UNAM 2012, the First National University Chess Tournament "Schools Included" – simultaneous exhibitions, workshops, art and science competitions, etc.
The main events included the Magistral Grandes Maestras Female tournament with
18 titled players from three continents. For the qualification heats the participants
were divided in three groups of six players each. The semifinals and finals
are from Friday Nov. 23 to Sunday Nov. 25.

The first qualifier was won by IM Olga Alexandrova, who hails from Ukraine but lives in Barcelona, married to GM Miguel Illescas. WGM Sulennis Pina Vega from Cuba took second place.
