In the open tournament, the Master Series, 16 teams initially play seven rounds in two groups of eight in a round-robin format. The top two teams in each group qualify for the knockout stages, with semi-finals and a final.
The women's team championship is played at the same venue, but in a different format. Ten teams take part, playing seven rounds Swiss.
Obiettivo Risarcimento are the favourites to win the Master Series title. The team has won the title a total of 13 times since 2006, most recently six times in a row. Their main rivals are World Trading Lab Club 64 from Modena, Pedone Isolano and Arzachess Costa Smeralda.
But in round 4 the favourite suffered a setback and lost to Lazio Scacchi Master, who now lead the field in Group A:
