5/16/2024 – The World Chess Federation FIDE, which stands for Fédération Internationale des Échecs, was founded on 20 July 1924 in Paris, France, and is celebrating its centenary this year - with many interesting events. One of them is the "International Chess Day Art Competition". It takes place on FIDE's birthday, 20 July.
5/15/2024 – This weekend, the grand chess spectacle will begin in Morocco. Four top grandmasters – Carlsen, Nakamura, Anand, and Amin – will test the new Casablanca Chess Variant, introduced by the Casablanca Stock Exchange. They will start their rapid games from carefully selected positions derived from historical games.
4/30/2024 – The World Rapid & Blitz Cadet Chess Championship 2024, organized by FIDE and the Albanian Chess Federation at the Fafa Resort & Spa Hotel in Durres, Albania, is in the books. The competition took place from April 25-29, bringing together 375 participants from 43 countries in rapid and 336 players from 43 countries for the Blitz event.
4/19/2024 – The Greek Chess Federation will host the European Women's Individual Championship this year. The tournament will take place from 18th (arrival) to 30th (departure) April 2024 at the 5 star conference hotel "Rodos Palace" in Rhodes, Greece. 4/15/2024 – Continuing its global journey from the Indian subcontinent to Africa and Europe, the FIDE100 Torch Relay, commemorating a century of FIDE, has now reached the shores of North America. The ceremony was held on April 13, at the Nathan Phillips square in the center of Toronto, not far from the Great Hall where the strongest men and women players in the world are fighting in the Candidates tournament.

3/15/2024 – The Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T Challenge in Weissenhaus caused quite a stir. Now Magnus Carlsen and Jan Henric Buettner are following suit and announcing the founding of the Freestyle Chess Players Club. They are also launching the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour. Four to six tournaments a year are planned, the first in India in November 2024.
3/11/2024 – Five months after Hamas attacked the Israeli civilian population with hideous atrocities, 100 hostages are still being held captive by Hamas. 2/22/2024 – Magnus Carlsen was challenged, and he won what he called his "dream tournament." The world number one rated player was crowned the winner of the inaugural Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge on Friday afternoon at the closing ceremony, held in the playing hall half an hour after the last game had ended. 2/20/2024 – Monday 26 February 2024 is the official opening of the Prague Chess Festival 2024 and the first round will be played on Tuesday 27 February. Both the Masters and the Challengers tournaments have an interesting and strong field and with Praggnanandhaa, Gukesh, Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Vincent Keymer the four best junior players in the world will meet in Prague. Guest of honour at the opening ceremony will be Vishy Anand, who will also give a lecture and sign autographs.
2/14/2024 – On the occasion of the 100th anniversary since its founding, FIDE is set to launch the Chess Torch Relay, a global movement aimed at celebrating the rich history of the game and bringing together the entire chess community. As part of the FIDE 100 celebration, the torch relay will commence on February 14 in New Delhi, India, at the Major Dhyan National Stadium.
2/13/2024 – In about two weeks, on 26 February 2024, the sixth Prague International Chess Festival (PICF) will begin. Now, the Hall of Fame announced its new exhibition: Donna Dodson's "Match of the Matriarchs and other Amazonomachies". It will start on 15 February and centers on women’s stories and lives, and the history of women in chess.
