The 10-year-old came out of the opening unscathed and went on to gain a pawn before reaching the endgame. A grave mistake by Carlsen gave the youngster an extra piece, which he converted into a memorable — yet symbolic, since 1-minute games are extremely volatile — victory.
Oro was streaming the tournament on his YouTube channel, and clipped his game against Carlsen. We can hear him say, “If I lose this position, I should retire from chess”, while his little dance of celebration at the end is surely endearing.
